Double flared, slightly domed face plugs made from Amazonite, or "Amazon Stone," named as such because it was once believed the stone came from the Amazon River area. The stone was used by the ancient Egyptian culture, along with peoples in India and Mesopotamia for jewelry and adornment as early as 2000BCE. Fairly rare, it has been discovered in only a few places in limited quanitity - Russia, a few localities in the United States and more recently in Madagascar. This particular material is from Virginia, USA. We actually took a company field trip to the mine in February and discovered this beautiful, gem quality batch. Check out the blog post about the experience.
This amazing set exhibits a super rich green-blue coloration, with some white streaking. This was extraordinarily vibrant, rare rough material and these pieces have an incredible deep color that you will not find in any other stone.
