These traditional Mayan flower reproduction tunnels are modeled after a 4-petal flower ear adornment design common to Pre-Columbian cultures. The front faces are carved in a flower motif which comprises the entire front flare. They are made from a rare form of black Guatemalan jadeite referred to as 'Pyrita,' or sometimes called "Galactic Gold" by an authority in Guatemala that specializes in traditional Maya jadeite. The material is composed of black jadeite containing inclusions of pyrite, giving it a sparkly gold on black (or sometimes very, very dark green) effect.
